Cosign Wit Nas Cause Hip Hop Is Dead
The other night I making some beats. I was on wikipedia looking at Lupe Fiasco’s discography to see what songs were sampled in his beats so I could look for similar songs on Pandora.com for my beats. Food and Liquor and The Cool are two of my favorite albums of all time. I proceeded to look at the songs sampled in Food and Liquor (because samples from The Cool were not listed) and noticed that his album only went gold, which is equal to 500,000 copies. I proceeded to shout expletives (lol) and continued to be baffled by the situation. I couldn’t understand how an album with such lyrical content and quality could only go gold. Then it hit me. Hip Hop is dead. I say this for many reasons, one of them being the relevance of 2 genres. I feel like rap and hip hop have similarities but over the years have grown to be different. I feel like rap is more the more commercial genre. I feel like this is what record labels push to make money. I see a lot of rap as simple and ridiculous, sometimes overly violently and nonsensical. Some songs put out by artists are purely rap in essence, with no type of lyrical content.... unless your looking to hear about drugs, "bitches", and killing people then sure, rap is that piff. Hip Hop is has something/ a subject to talk about and by a subject i mean something worth wild. Lupe's cd (2nd one) contains and myraid of various topics. He addresses the child soilders in Africa and else where in the world, he discusses how people want rap to be "dumbed down". His first cd also covers many topics that are not talked about as much. Lately I've just been baffled with the content that makes the air ways these days, especially since the onlyplay superstar everywhere. No doubt its a good song, but there are other song Lupe has. Maybe one day things will change.

Help My House Is On Fire!!
If my house was on fire I'd basically panic. With only 10 minutes to grab a many things as possible, I would only grab the things i felt I needed. For example, if my clothes werent on fire, I would grab a spare change of clothes in the event that I was misplaced for more than one night. I would also take my Cpu that has all my music that i have created. Although dragging a whole cpu is a bit tidious, I feel its necessary for me because my music is my life and I would pretty much die without it. My Cpu has all my music recordings and all other files I need to pursue my music career. With that said I could possibly use my beats to sell and make money to eventually get a place or something. I would also help my parents and sisters grab the things they needed and wanted to take too.
Contraceptives In Middle School
I think giving middle school students contraceptives is a good and bad decision. There are pluses because students need to know the basics on safe sex. They need to know what does what, what goes where, and how to use things correctly. This knowledge may help drive pregnancy to decline, but then we have to look at some of the negatives. For example we could see a sharp increase in stds, due to the fact contraceptives don’t always work, and stds, in some cases, can go undetected and show no symptoms for years. If I had a child I would not like them taking and using birth control without my knowledge, because its just not right. As a parent I wouldn’t condone my children having sex, but I would understand that it would happen sometime. I feel like sexual education should be taught early but i feel liek its best if parents did thier jobs and taught their kids about sex rather than having some one else do it for them. There should be education on sex full circle. Learning about it should start in the home and continue in the school.
Casinos In Philadelphia
Building a casino in Philadelphia has its benefits and it has its repercussions. It would bring in a lot of money which could be used to fund various things that needed to be taken care of in the city. Building a casino would help surrounding areas with redevelopment. It would also provide jobs and would bring in many visitors, but I think the repercussions of this are far worst. We would see and huge spike in crime, which at this current time the city does not need. There would have to be more funding for an increased police presence and the boost in crime would become detrimental to the community. The proposed casinos would be located in and around housing, which provides shelter for those who are in lower financial situations. The question is how far are they willing to go with this casino. Will they demolished homes and misplace the people who need housing most? There are many questions raised that need answers. Maybe we will finbd some in the future.
Stop And Frisk..
In Philadelphia, new mayor Michael Nutter has initiated a new law called stop and frisk which would allow police to stop anyone and serach them is they look suspicious. I feel as though stop and frisk isn’t illegal as long as it doesn’t become harassment. I think the concept of stop and frisk is good at its core, but it will face many problems. For example abuse of power by cops may become problematic; because of as stated before they may harass some people and even make unnecessary stops for no reasons. Another problem this may face is with the cops themselves. Cops, knowing how dangerous the city is, may not feel comfortable, or be willing to make those type of stops. The biggest issue this will face is racial profiling. Considering most of the city's (inner city not suburbs) residents are black, the issue of racial profiling is obvious. People might feel as though the majority being searched (black people) is the one who will get searched the more.

Banning Hugs In School? One School Has
I think the ban on hugging in school is ridiculous. I don’t believe it makes any sense. I understand that students can sometimes be inappropriate, by doing a touchy feely hug and kissing or something, but I feel like a simple hug shouldn’t be banned. People hug there brothers and sisters and parents, so should they be reprimanded for this? I think the school district just wants to be a stiff, and just annoy people for the sake of it. I don’t see how a hug can hurt someone.

Responses To The Wildfire (Old Blog For Crossbridge)
I think the response to the wildfires was quicker than the response to hurricane Katrina because of the money aspect. As we all know California is home to many wealthy people. It seemed as though authorites worked quickly and efficently trying to not only put out the fire, and help it not to spread, but also to evactuate the people who lived in the area. As an emergency worker it is pertinent to save as many lives as possible but when you compare and contrast the reactions to the wildfires vs. katrina, we see one was obviously better than other. I feel like the response to Katrina was delayed due to the fact that a majority of the people were poor. it also almost seemed as though the president used this incident to clean up his failings in Katrina.

Is Pop Culture A Waste (Doubt It)
So basically a college professor said that all thing related to pop culture and things that we read, watch, and do on the computer is and are a waste of time, energy, and a waste of our minds...
I completely disagree with the statement. Pop culture is my mind is not a complete waste. If it was a complete waste then all that is current is a waste too. Pop culture can be defined as what is present/current, so currently speaking, would that make this profeessor a waste? There are many aspects of pop culture that are in fact a waste of time. There are some reality shows and some music that are pointless (in my opinion) but then they are alot of other aspects that are fantastic. Tv shows like dirty jobs give us insight and help us see and gain a new respect for people that make life possible. Artists like Lupe Fiasco paint pictures with words and give us a new look on ordinary subjects in life. There are artists, musicans, doctors, etc who all push to strive to make things to better life and improve culture. Pop culture art wise (tv and such) is chosen to be listened to/watched on our spare time. In the article the professor was basically saying that it wasted our spare time.... Spare Time Key Word... Think About it
